My story is probably familiar to you: climbing ladders, exceeding expectations, being the reliable one who could turn visions into reality. I’d built my entire identity around being indispensable.

As a leader, I’d handled a few cases of corporate stings. I helped resolve conflicts around sexual harassment, bullying, and racial discrimination. But during my second maternity leave, the corporate knives came for me, too.

My work? Credited to my maternity cover. My role? Suddenly “shareable” with someone who’d been there for months, not years. My contributions? Rendered invisible by a new C-Suite guy who literally touched my pregnant belly at a team dinner, then systematically erased my professional existence.

I was spraying lavender and rose mist on my face before every team meeting just to manage the anxiety. People knew what was happening but tiptoed. The gaslighting was so intense I questioned my own reality.

That’s when I finally learned that the ladder of conventional success without spiritual protection is just elaborate self-destruction. That no amount of “reputation” or “impact” was protection enough from corporate scorpion stings.

So I returned to nourishing my spiritual life.

I tapped into the magic of Tarot, of Ancient Egyptian goddesses and protectors, of candles and my garden. And in reconnecting with my essence, I also asserted my boundaries with strength & justice; I chose to stand up for myself with the same conviction I had stood up for my team in the past.

The result was a settlement I’m legally bound not to discuss (but let’s just say it was substantial), public vindication from the CEO who confirmed I’d acted with “full integrity,” and the clarity that my real work in challenging corporate BS was just beginning.

But more importantly: I learned that your greatest professional setbacks are often sacred thresholds to your most authentic power.

That experience of corporate spiritual death and strategic rebirth? It became my superpower.
